Our First Wishing Well Project

July 24th, 2018

For all children, unsafe water at school can lead to outbreaks of diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and dysentery. This also affects families as caregivers will have to stay at home to take care of sick children, which means time away from their jobs, thereby forfeiting precious income. It is essential that water and sanitation provision in schools be integrated with the provision of water and sanitation facilities in surrounding communities to ensure that all children especially girls attend school. Open defecation still remains a problem in many parts of the country.

The project was implemented at Chiwena Hope Secondary School which was recently constructed to promote quality education in Chiwena CDP. The beneficiaries of this project are the current 200 registered students, 30 Teachers and 70 surrounding community members. The schools plans to enrol a total of 500 students by the end of 2018 thus the student beneficiaries will increase.

"The school would like to appreciate and thank you for the borehole which you put up at our school. The school had a serious problem of water but pupils are happy to fetch water from within the school. I wish you well as you continue doing good works to the needy." - Chiwena Hope Secondary School Head Teacher
